Define fewer, more meaningful events

Measurement becomes difficult when every click is treated as an equally important conversion. Begin with the small set of actions that represent genuine progress, then separate them from diagnostic events such as scrolls or video views.

Give each important action a clear name, trigger, and owner. A form submission, for example, should have a documented success condition rather than firing whenever somebody selects the submit button.

Write the plan before touching the tags

A measurement plan is a shared agreement between marketing, sales, and whoever maintains the website. It records what is collected and why before implementation details make those decisions hard to see.

  • Business question the event helps answer.
  • Event name and exact trigger conditions.
  • Parameters needed for useful analysis.
  • Consent and privacy requirements.
  • Person responsible for testing and maintenance.

Connect platform reporting to business review

Advertising platforms are good at reporting activity inside their own environments. Your review process also needs to consider lead quality, sales progression, refunds, or other outcomes held elsewhere.

That does not require a perfect attribution model. It requires an honest view of what each data source can tell you, a consistent review cadence, and decisions that are recorded alongside the numbers.

Treat measurement as maintenance

Websites, consent tools, checkout flows, and campaign naming change. Schedule regular tests of critical actions and keep a short change log. Reliable reporting is an operational habit, not a one-time setup task.
